43 Old Queen Street
43 Old Queen Street is a Grade II Listed property constructed c.1775 as 'an end of terrace town house with shop', and lies within the Birdcage Walk Conservation Area.
The Tudor passageway known as Maiden Lane was enlarged in 1697 to form Queen Street, which in turn was renamed Old Queen Street in 1893. No. 43 was rebuilt about 1775, whereafter the premises were occupied by a variety of businesses, including saddlers, rush-light sellers, picture dealers, a domestic servants agency and a newsagents and stationers.
About 1895 the premises became occupied by William Hay Fielding and Co., law stationers, who remained in occupation for over 80 years, then in the late 1980s it was substantially refurbished to configure the building in its present form as offices.
