30 Queen Anne's Gate
Number 30 Queen Anne's Gate is a substantial double-fronted Grade I listed house of c.7,500 sq ft, overlooking St James's Park. The house has many interesting period features including fireplaces paneled rooms and an original staircase, all of which compliment the William & Mary/ Queen Anne style of architecture.
30 Queen Anne's Gate (formally known as 11 Queen's Square) was built in the period 1702-1705 by Charles Shales. This small estate of houses was sold in 1713 to The Hon J Brydges who in turn sold it to Sir Theodore Janssen in 1720. Later that year Janssen sold the entire estate to off-set his losses in the debacle of the 'South Sea Bubble' when the houses passed into the hands of numerous individuals.
Notwithstanding this early division of the estate, the houses remain as a cohesive architectural entity and the property is part of one of the best and most complete streets of regular houses of its date in London.
