22 Old Queen Street
"Park Prospect", or 22 Old Queen Street, dates from 1760 and probably earlier with additions and improvements. The property c. 8,000 sq ft, was designed not only to take the best advantage of its location overlooking St James's Park (hence is historic name) but also its unusually wide plot.
This is demonstrated by the twin bays of differing design which overlook a most attractive formal garden of almost 40 feet in width. The house is unique in design with many period features including antique fireplaces, magnificent staircases and paneled rooms.
Its history is further enhanced by its occupation by such diverse luminaries as the engineer Marc Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the contralto Dame Clara Butt and the patron of Elgar who gave some of his early performances in the music room.
